It is very smooth and quiet. It is lacking a hand-grip pulse monitor, but it does work with chest-strap pulse monitors. I tried other brands that were cheaper, but they felt cheap and wobbly. It gets daily, hard use from both myself and my children. The machine is smooth, solid, and always performs well. I originally bought it because I used a Precor at a health club for several years. The health club had several other elliptical makes; I preferred the Precors. The differences between this model and the club model are not all that great, certainly not worth paying more money for. For example, this model has a painted steel front ramp on which the wheels roll up and down; the next model up has an aluminum ramp; both ramps do the same job well. I have had other elliptical machines; however, this allows users to obtain a high level of perceived exertion when kept at a high resistance, 15 or 16, out of 20. The ability to adjust incline, benefits all muscles in the lower body, focusing on a few at a time if necessary. It is an added bonus if you do not hang onto the handle bars, giving you the ability to also use your inner core muscles for balance. Yes it is expensive, but if you are one who really works out hard and consistently, it is worth the price.
