The left pedal did not attach to the crank during assembly. The screw and/or attaching point were not cut properly for attachment. I ordered a refund/replacement from Amazon. When the second bike came it had the exact same defect. Also, the wrong handle-bar tightening screw came with the replacement. In the end, I had to attach my duplicate right-hand pedal from the first order to the second bike, and am not sure if the bike will last in this condition. I WILL NEVER BUY SCHWINN AGAIN!!! And if Amazon does not cover the full price and shipping of the original (30 days or not) I will never shop this site again either.

There has been a long problem with Schwinn exercise bikes, the dreaded e-2 error. I have the 112 and have been fighting the e-2 error issue for four years (anger will keep you going and from throwing it and my money away). I’m on the fourth motor assembly. I called Schwinn today 7/20/2009 and they said they cannot ship me anymore motors, since this last one was just over a year old. I’ve actually isolated it down to an electronic component called a potentiometer. It’s a $3. 00 part at Radio Shack, but needs to be matched exactly to the original specification and I can’t seem to get the right one. The ones in the bikes are defective. However, after four years of removing and reinstalling motors I’m done. No more Schwinn’s or Nautilus, Inc products. If you are looking to buy, beware. This problem has been going on for a long time and who knows if they are still putting these defective products in the new models. I wouldn’t waste good money to find out. Go with another brand.

The seat is pointed up too much and there is no way to adjust the angle of the seat. It is very uncomfortable, so I used a pillow to make it feel better. Otherwise, the bike seems to be just fine. It was easy to assemble and takes about 30 minutes.

The Active 10 series upright bike is quite nice. It looks great, is surprisingly quiet, was fairly easy to assemble, and is helping me get exercise! Unfortunately, it has several flaws. First, the seat that ships with this bike is as hard as a rock. I bought the Schwinn pillow top seat to replace it, and found that it too is quite hard. I don’t understand why bike seats have to be so uncomfortable. Second, the computer interface isn’t very intuitive. I’m a computer scientist, and I still can’t figure out how to get it to remember my time goals between sessions, without also remembering the total distance and calories I obtained from the previous session. Why should a new session start counting from the final distance and calories from before? Makes no sense to me! Third, there’s no way to manually turn off the computer; you simply have to let the thing turn itself off after four minutes. Seeing as the computer is battery powered (four C-cell batteries, which aren’t the easiest type to find), this misfeature wastes a little battery life each session.
These flaws are annoying, but the bike is helping me get exercise, so it gets points for trying.

I spent a couple weeks looking at bikes at different stores trying to figure out which one I wanted. I was stuck between three bikes: this one, another inexpensive bike at a chain retail store, and a bike at another store costing $100 more. After reading every online review I could find out online about all the bikes, I chose to take a risk and buy this one without trying it out. I am so happy I went with this bike.
Setting up the bike was easy. My husband took his time and set it up in 45 minutes. I am 5′5” and was able to easily find a setting fit for me with another setting marked even lower if you may not be as tall. The size is very compact, which we had a hard time believing the width of the machine, but it is true. I have decent sized closets in my apartment (although not walk in), and this bike will even fit in the closet in case I don’t want the bike out in the open. The frame is extremely strong (no wobbling on carpet and I am plus sized). Very simple and sturdy machine. I only use the computer for the tensions (which go from absolutely no tension to what feels like a more body building tension), chart distance and time, as well as heart rate. I even use it with a Wii game where I have to take my heart rate to chart my progress.
A big problem I read about is concerning the hard seat. I purchased the optional Schwinn padded seat (that is recommended by amazon). It helped some, but my seat still didn’t feel the most comfortable so I laid a towel over the seat for a few days until my bottom got used to the seat and I was able to take it off.
Also, another think worth noting is that the peddles are comfortable enough where you can even ride it barefoot (which I’ve done before).
I am riding this 30 plus minutes a day going 17-19 mph while watching TV. The only thing I would hope Schwinn would improve on in the future is adding a water bottle holder.
I love the quality of this bike and would highly recommend it for someone who wants a workout while watching tv.
