Well written, but I was not impressed. A lot of basic stuff. Maybe good for someone who is a non business graduate.

Nothing new here folks. The author does a good job summarizing the obvious steps in generating an idea and bringing it to market. Any business school graduates would find this book somewhat lacking. Will not hurt you to read this less than 140 page guide. You could probably just read the last couple of pages that summarize his idea process and satisfy your inquisitiveness.

I kinda liked this book. It wasn’t exactly what I was hoping for. And it was pretty short. It’s certainly not a 5-star, and I’m torn between giving it 4 or possibly 3 stars. But if I give it only 3 stars, then I’m really saying don’t buy it and read it only if you get it as a gift. Thus, the 4-star rating.

I’m a SCORE volunteer who provides business coaching services. Time and time again I am faced with clients who want to start a business. Many have just an idea for a company, while others have gone beyond that and actually tried to write a first draft of a business plan. The instant book being reviewed if written better could be a tremendous help to my clients. Unfortunately I think the book needed to be better refined so its 11-part process could be more easily applied to converting an idea into something more solid.

After reading the book I jotted down the 11-parts and tried to pose a question next to each that adequately identified each part for me as follows:

    1. Distinctions – What do you want to do?
    2. Identity – Are you in a position to do it?
    3. Implications – Brainstorm the viability of what you want to do?
    4. Testing – Does the real world believe you are thinking straight?
    5. Precedent – What does history have to say?
    6. Need – Does the world really need what you want to do?
    7. Foundation –
    8. Completion
    9. Connecting
    10. Impact
    11. Advocacy

I could only get through Chapter 6 before the parts started to become meaningless for me. In all fairness I think this book is worth reading, but I don’t highly recommend it. The funny thing about this book is the author claims his expertise is enabling people to refine ideas so they are something more that profits can be derived from. If this book is the best he can do to refine the idea for the book, then maybe the underlying message isn’t all that great?

If you are interested in turning an idea into something more, then I recommend you search out good books on term paper writing and thesis papers for graduating from college or getting a doctorate. All papers start out as ideas. And long papers need a lot of investigation, research, brainstorming, streamlining, and consolidating. Writing a business plan is basically the same project as writing a term paper. 4 stars!

This step-by-step system for developing an idea or creating and innovation helps people uncover and use their own innate genius and comes from an intellectual property consultant who works with individuals and organizations alike. His 11-step process is a proven key to successfully realizing ideas and bringing them to fruition, and makes for a powerful presentation.
